In 1985 Botswana, a university student brings her boyfriend and his family to her home village, only for the two families to engage in a hilarious one-upmanship competition over who contributed more to building the University of Botswana.
The team reports that the comedy has moved into a stronger, more production-ready shape after a long revision process. Casting callbacks are active, village / farm location options are being assessed, and the project is now focusing on the practical demands of delivering a believable 1985 Botswana world.
Immediate priorities include period props and costume research, location imagery for the preferred farm option, and rehearsal preparation once callback decisions are locked. The indoor dinner scene remains one of the key production-design scenes and may benefit from a controlled Buttswood setup.
A new final screenplay draft has been received for Motho le Motho Sengwe, strengthening the film’s production readiness. The updated draft deepens the 1985 setting through family ritual, village status dynamics, radio-era atmosphere, and a more playable scene structure for ensemble comedy.
The current working script also credits Ruby Ramabu and Neo Kebiditswe, giving the team a clearer basis for casting rhythm, art direction, and historical texture. We are summarizing the update here rather than publishing the raw screenplay PDF.
